Royal Golf Course at Vale do Lobo resort, has rolling fairways set amidst pine trees and beautiful lakes surrounded by wild flowers. Its features include the almost island green of the 9th and the famous 16th, with cliff-top carryover - one of the most celebrated golfing images in the world, which has become the veritable symbol of golf in the Algarve.|The Royal Golf Course was designed by top American golf architect Rocky Roquemore, based on original drawings made by Sir Henry Cotton. It was inaugurated in 1997.
-**- We were the last flight today and had 3 flights of 3 in front of us, so unfortunately we had to wait at every hole and only played up to hole 16. Unfortunately we had the greenkeepers behind and in front of us the whole time, which was really unpleasant from the background noise, worse than waiting to be able to continue playing. The guys from the cart service are super nice, the course is really beautiful. We will play there again.
Greens not great and too much sand in bunkers. Layout and fairways good
Surprised to discover that the greens had been aerated recently and there was no notification either on booking or at the clubhouse. This is information that should be shared with players in advance.
Nice course but felt like we had to hurry last 8 holes due to predator people whine us which took the enjoyment out a bit
It’s one of those courses that you have to play if staying in the Algarve, as the 16th is the one in all the photos! Clubhouse and the facilities are excellent but it’s always a slow round here! Buggy is recommended as there are some long walks between greens and tee boxes. We played as a group of 10 and was allowed to play as a 4,3,3 two days later on the Ocean we were paired up with 2 others to make 3 fourballs. Those who were playing the course for the first time were impressed.
The best thing I can say is the staff were lovely and very helpfull. The course for the money they charge was in very poor condition, the bunkers should have been out of play loosing ball plugged in them, new sand probably filled that day. On the day we played the Royal there was a machine digging out a bunker at the 6th green one of our group hit his ball into that area which was scooped up by the digger never to be seen again.
A slight bit of confusion with regard to transfer when No return bus to our hotel turned up & we had to wait an hour .but the staff at vale do lobo organised one for us
If you really must play Vale Do Lobo then be prepared for the noisiest round of golf you've ever had. Standing on the 1st tee of the Royal Course is like teeing off at the Ryder Cup. 20+ other groups standing around talking/shouting, Green Staff wizzing by on mowers/machines and then every hole after that either has building work or noisy gardeners present at every adjacent villa. It was not relaxing at all. Top that off with greens that were well overdue a cut and I was extremely disappointed. If you're having a drink on the outside sofas afterwards do not look between the cushions, disgusting. Far better experiences to be had for far less money. Style over substance.
As always, in very well-kept condition. The service throughout the facility is very friendly and courteous. Only the old buggies do not really fit into the concept.
A bit disappointing, we didn’t tee off at the time we booked, behind a 4 ball who were not accomplished enough for the course, we waited on every shot and missed out on playing 2 or 3 holes before sunset. Greens were poor and generally course looked a bit shabby and having played it over the last 7 years we were disappointed
Well honestly the greens were way too wet and so very slow. I thought the Algarve was short of water !!! Surprisingly San Lorenzo won as a course, of course the apres was reversed.
Pleasant course - not sure it’s great value for money. Clubhouse great
