Laguna Golf Course in Vilamoura - Algarve , laid out over low-lying coastal terrain, this course, with its many water hazards and few trees, is considerably different from the other ones at the resort and many of its holes convey a links atmosphere. Many previous visitors will recognise it as part of the former 27-hole Vilamoura III course.|It includes several lakes which influence play on a total of 11 holes. In addition to acting as hazards and emergency water reservoirs, these lakes serve a useful purpose in attracting a variety of aquatic birds, both resident and migratory, as well as amphibians, otters, terrapins etc.|Vilamoura's master developers, Lusotur, have also established an environmental nature park not far from the course. Apart from the lakes and an impressive total of 79 bunkers, another hazard is the wind that frequently blows over this somewhat exposed location.

The greens were under all criticism and that no warning is given including a reduced green fee is really bad. We who live in Vilamoura must be ashamed when we have guests with us, which now affected us.

I have marked low mainly due to the condition of the greens. It is a long time since I have played on greens so bad.
The marshalling was non existent and the game was very slow, it took 5 hours to play the round, We were waiting on every shot.

In comparison with other courses, which we played that week, this one was in worst condition (mainly greens)

no buggies available, we only played 9 holes. staff were friendly but restricted by management rules as to what they could do for us. we will not be returning to this course, also the greens were sub standard, they appeared to have a hard crust on top

Spent a lot of money on the relaying of the course. It is now worst than it was before. The greens are horrendous

Played Laguna on the 20th of Feb. This golf course should not have been open to the public..the state of the greens were byond bad ...not a green blade of grass to be seen anywhere on the greens. The fairways and tees were just slightly better.
Tee Times reply: Dear Mr Maguire, Thank you for your comments.
The Laguna golf course has Bermuda grass greens, which need less water to keep. However, it hibernates during the winter and changes from green to brown during this time until temperatures start to rise again to average 18-19º and it enters its active state. Kind regards, Tee Times Golf Agency

Laguna was not as well maintained as Millennium. Areas in front of the greens were muddy and need some fresh growth. Greens were quick but also Ned fresh growth as no where near as good as the other course. Laguna needs some care and attention!

The renovation of the Laguna during the last two years has raised high expectations on the result. The overall course layout has not been changed. According to the starter many sand bunkers have been removed and a new type of grass has been used on the greens (very dark green appearance).
The greens on the front nine appeared to me extremely fast (at least as fast as on the Victoria, maybe even faster). On the back nine the greens felt significantly slower. All in all I had the impression that the greens are not consistent throughout the course - maybe that will change over the next months. I assume that the removal of the sand bunkers is linked to maintenance cost, but from my perspective it was not to the benefit of the course. It lost a bit in terms of challenges.
In summary I would say that the Laguna has not taken much benefit from the renovation and is now almost on the same level as the Millennium course (which I consider as boring).
Service in the restaurant (hole 19) was really fast and good.
*Undulated - 1st nine holes
*Dogleg - Minor amount of Par 4's
*Exposed - Very, wind conditions play a big part
*Buggy Recommended - If Essential
*Water hazards - On both 9's
*Links Course - Probably not near enough to the coastline to be links, but back 9 plays is links style
*Parkland - Front 9
*Signature Hole - 9th
*Comments - Good test, with well placed bunkers and water hazards
