We had o good round of golf with a very friendly couple from Holland! We love this golf course with is hilly fairways and doglegs with blind holes. The only negative I can think off was the buggy which didn’t had enough power from hole 14 onwards. We had to push the buggy uphill !!

The greens were not fast but they were true. You had to repair the many pitch marks left by other ''golfers''. I think that Castro Marim is a monotonous course. You go up to the tee box, down to the valley, up to the green. Up to the tee box, down to the valley, up to the green. And so on. The course lay-out is very poor. The dog-legs are ridiculous, as are the stroke indexes. As an example, hole 3 on the Guadiana course is a par 5. Why? It is only 404m from the whites, 361m form the yellows. The dog-leg is too far and too acute to give you a view from your tee shot to the green (very much like hole 1 on the Grouse course). Not only that, it has a stroke index of 2!!!!!! There are 3 courses of 9 holes at Castro Marim. If I am booked to play A+B, A+C, or B+C, I would expect to have a scorecard with the stroke indexes of the 18 holes that I am playing, not to have the SI of each nine. Of the six golf courses on the East Algarve (not to forget the two courses just over the bridge in Spain), Castro Marim is at the bottom of the list. I am a member of Benamor, second bottom of the list, but, as a member, it is impossible to book a tee time and so I have to pay to play elsewhere. By the way, I beat a 6-handicapper by 6 and 5 and he is never going to be allowed to forget, so my comments are not sour grapes.

Lovely course, good facilities, beautiful clubhouse and good food. Staff were pleasant however it would have made the experience a little better if staff were more proactive in directing visitors, eg to the caddymaster, to the range, to the first tee. We found we had to ask or find the way ourselves. A minor complaint but it is particularly relevant at a course with 3 x 1st tees!

Castro Marim Golf Resort ist eine sehr gut gepflegte Anlage, die Villen sind modern ausgestattet und in einem sehr guten Zustand. Die Mitarbeite in der Rezeption, im Proshop und im Restaurant sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Der Golfplatz liegt in schöner Natur, ruhig, und mit wunderschönen rund um Ausblicken, falls man sich dafür Zeit nimmt. Die Bahnen sind nicht langweilig, haben Eigencharakter und brauchen gute Spielstrategie.

The group behind hit through us on 3 occasions even though were kept right up with the group in front of us - it's a shame some golfers are idiots. Of course this was no reflection on the golf course itself. If you are looking for a medium length course (c.6,300 yards off the back (white) tees), with many challengingly tight drives then this is the course for you.
